Online recruitment can provide the public sector with a cost-effective and efficient soloution, new research has revealed. A study by the Cranfield School of Management has shown e-recruitment is particularly suited because the sector is expected to be cost-effective. Author of the research, Dr Emma Parry, said: "Recruitment has become more problematic and expensive in the UK due to increasing skills shortages and demand for labour." The study found a number of benefits to electronic recruitment, which included reduced costs, greater reach and increased transparency. "Our research shows that it's possible for public sector organisations to find success with e-recruitment, providing that they approach it in the right way in terms of candidate engagement," Dr Perry added. Ofcom has observed a rapid increase in internet connections as more people go online. It found the total number of global broadband connections increased by more than 600 per cent between 2001 and 2006.
