IT firms are increasingly filling their vacancies with workers from a variety of backgrounds and those who have changed career, one training provider has claimed. Computeach said many of the workers it placed into positions come from 'industrial' jobs and some have never worked in an office before. Maryanne Clayton, head of recruitment and careers, noted despite this they demonstrated "an ability and drive for IT". She told Personnel Today: "This, accompanied with the qualifications they're studying towards, makes them extremely attractive candidates for employment." A spokeswoman for electrical giant, Siemens, which has recently employed several new staff, backed-up Ms Clayton's claims. "We find that these individuals have a real sense of motivation and accomplishment some having raced through their training courses, such is their determination to succeed," she noted. According to the latest Office for National Statistics figures, employees now work 5.4 million hours more per week than last year.
