The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has noted the labour market has increased demand for temporary jobs. Its research, supported by professional services firm, KPMG, found permanent placement fell for the second time in three months and temporary vacancies have risen the fastest since November. "This month's Report on Jobs shows that the labour market remains in a delicate state, although there remains a strong demand for temporary workers," said acting chief executive officer, Helen Reynolds. "This further highlights the crucial resource that agency work provides for employers, as well as the opportunities that it provides for workers." Economic difficulties have forced some firms to hire part-time and home workers to avoid the added commitment of administering workers in permanent positions. Ms Reynolds added it was not a good time for the government to be considering new temporary employment legislation "when it is crucial that we keep the labour market ticking in a challenging economy".
