Employees could employ lie detector technology to dissuade workers from going sick, Personnel Today has reported. The government's ant-fraud minister, James Plaskitt praised the Voice Risk Analysis (VRA) system when it was tested to identify false benefit claims. It monitors staff voices when they call in sick. Lawrence Knowles, managing director of a computing company, told Personnel Today: "If you know there is a lie detector on the other end of the phone, I'm pretty sure most people would think twice [about lying]." Separate research has found eight in ten employers thought employees who were unwell during the recent spell of hot weather, were pulling sickies. Recruitment managing director, Peter Dune said: "If you're tempted to take time off work because of the hot weather, then you are not alone, but before doing so, think about how unfair it is towards your employer and fellow colleagues."
