UK workers will receive additional training on their pension and retirement planning as part of an extended government initiative. Pensions minister Mike O'Brien announced today funding would continue until March 2009 and 26 projects across the UK will share a £1.47 million pension education fund. He said the guidance is for people who perhaps "have never thought about pensions or what they might do when they retire". "The scheme is a useful way to give people the information they need to make decisions about their futures," he added. A further scheme is under consideration following the recommendations of an independent review. Mr O'Brian confirmed: "The government is currently working with the Financial Services Authority to set up a Money Guidance Pathfinder project." The government is due to raise the state pension age to 65, for both sexes.
