Managers face a difficult summer, as it will feature increased dismissals and rising discontent, an employment expert has warned. Jonathan Whittaker, employment partner at Cheshire law firm, SAS Daniels told human resources website, HRZone: "We're due a consistently hot summer." He noted a number of factors that could help raise the temperature, including personal finance pressures, the likely threat of job losses and huge pressures on staff to perform more efficiently and productively. Additionally, a lack of major sporting events could lead to increasing tension between bosses and staff, he observed. "Not being involved in Euro 2008 is a tremendous downer: in past years rugby, cricket and football tournaments have been an excuse for management to take their foot off the staff pressure pedal, and break down the barriers between the ranks." Mr Whittaker also expects to see claims that employees are going absent without leave and workers are taking longer lunch breaks.
