Teachers have turned to social networking to encourage the next generation of science teachers.

The Teaching and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) has launched its "Your Science" campaign, during which teachers across the UK are setting out to challenge stereotypical views of school science.

"Over the next two years we need to recruit an additional 6,600 science teachers to meet the expected demand from schools," said Graham Holey, chief executive.

"We need to encourage the best science graduates to become teachers, and this is what we will continue to do with the launch of today's campaign."

By utilising the YouTube video social networking site and posting five creative science classes the TDA hopes to widen its reach.

At the end of the campaign the most popular online experiment will be demonstrated at the agency's recruitment events.

The education regulator Ofsted has recently reported on teaching standards in schools.

Cristine Blower, acting general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, commenting on its findings said: "The fact that the percentage of good and outstanding schools is up is obviously good news and a tribute to teachers and school leaders."

Recruitment for call centre jobs in Liverpool and for general employment opportunities in Worcester is increasingly conducted online.
