Scottish council construction to create 250 jobs

2nd July 2009

The construction of Dundee City Council's new headquarters will create 250 jobs, according to the local authority.

In partnership with the Discover Opportunities group, the Scottish council has revealed that the £34 million project will provide temporary employment opportunities to the local community for a 20-month period.

Bovis Lendlease has been contracted to conduct the building work on Dundee House, which, when completed, will support a variety of vocational training schemes including work experience, apprenticeships and workforce development.

Councillor Ken Guild, administration leader of Dundee City Council, suggested that this project would increase confidence in the city's economy.

He said: "The Dundee House project will provide as many jobs as possible for local people and will help building firms during the current economic downturn."

Last month, Scottish first minister Alex Salmond announced plans at Dundee College to support the recruitment of 100 apprentices in the country's life sciences sector.
