can you imagine a world without STEM?

Can you picture a world without cars, phones, computers, and the internet? Or, more importantly, imagine living in a world without medical discoveries like vaccines and transplants? What would Egypt be without the pyramids, one of the seven wonders of the world, or New York without its iconic skyline? Even thinking of London without The Shard building now seems strange. Believe it or not, our lives and careers would be extremely different to what we know today without these things, and there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.

These incredible discoveries, technologies, and structures are all thanks to STEM (that’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). You may have seen these four letters and wondered ‘What has STEM ever done for me?’ We’re here to help and inspire. Our interactive STEMisphere, mapping how small elements and discoveries throughout history help us today, will show you how STEM has changed the world, created jobs and influenced life as we know it, going back thousands of years to uncover some hidden gems.

With the assistance of STEM inventions, specifically machine learning, we were able to develop a piece of content that showcases STEM. We combed through 94,440 pages of content to build a network highlighting some of the weird and wonderful STEM connections throughout history. We then distilled this vast collection of information to its most interesting components bridging the gap between artificial and human intelligence. Hopefully, it will make you view your life and working world in a whole new way.

Without STEM, life would be very different and millions of the jobs we do today simply wouldn’t exist. Explore the STEMisphere to find out for yourself why STEM matters.

where would we be without STEM?

We can’t take STEM for granted. From science teachers to builders and nurses to cybersecurity experts, we need future generations to embrace STEM to become the next wave of influencers leading change and driving innovation.
