job description

Do you have experience of working 1:1 with students who need extra support? Are you able to engage and inspire even the most challenging of students?

A secondary school in Leicester are currently looking to recruit a 1:1 Support Assistant to support a student in KS4. The school are looking to find someone who can work with this vulnerable student within their setting. For this role, you will need to have a good understanding of the KS4 curriculum and be able to support the student with both their learning as well as their social-emotional needs.

Working one-to-one with a vulnerable student can be challenging but very rewarding as you watch your student grow and reach their goals. The successful applicant will have a patient and caring disposition, be resilient and have the ability to build meaningful relationships with students and their staff team.

This is a long term contract starting as soon as possible until the end of the academic year (initially).

The role will include the following:

* Supporting the student to engage in lessons
* Aiding the student's learning by explaining the work and providing guidance where needed
* Motivating and encouraging the student as required by providing individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks
* Using praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the pupil to concentrate and stay on task
* Consistently and effectively implementing agreed behaviour management strategies
* Promoting the acceptance and inclusion of the student, encouraging pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner
* Monitoring the student's response to learning activities and where appropriate, modifying or adapting the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.

The successful candidate:

* Will ideally be Team Teach trained (not essential but desirable)
* Will have experience supporting on a 1:1 basis
* Will be able to identify and de-escalate negative situations as and when they arise
* Will be confident in providing effective assistance
* Will communicate well with parents, teachers and other influences
* Will be able to adapt their learning style to suit the student's needs
* Will demonstrate a creative and engaging learning path for the student

Benefits:

* A competitive rate of pay
* Holidays as per the school
* Work within a supportive and engaging school and team
* A rewarding, yet challenging role
* Access to free CPD and Team Teach training
