To be responsible for the project engineering of major capital schemes through the concept, definition and implementation stages until handover. Responsibilities include ensuring that agreed, Safety, technical, financial and time parameters are adhered to, and the most up-to-date technological concepts applied throughout the total project thus achieving physical assets specifications commensurate with attaining the most economic and efficient cost standards and performance in terms of yield on capital. In addition the role is to assist the Project Manager with the undertaking of the various Project Management tools in line with the Project Manual.


* To lead or form part of an engineering team able to deliver each project to a successful conclusion. The role may include responsibility for coordinating and controlling all engineering activities on the project or undertaking an engineering role in a specific discipline or area. Determining factors for allocation of the engineering role this will be Experience, Project size, complexity and business risk.

* To assist the Project Manager in preparing CAPEX proposals for the acquisition of physical assets advising on all project engineering aspects involving cost estimates to achieve the best commercial advantage to the business within time tables for capital expenditure applications.

* Evaluate design proposals from both contractors and Engineers designing out or minimising maintenance, and ensure and sound detailing to assist in maintenance planning, taking account of health and safety needs, identifying hazards and introducing safeguards at an early stage.

* Prepare plans for the Installation and commissioning of capital plant/equipment.


Dependant on role allocated within project engineering team; manage engineers within or across discipline for the Work Packages and activities associated with your respective projects.


Direct, lead, coach, develop and motivate assigned team members to ensure the accountabilities of the team are delivered and to ensure the creation of an effective team and continuous improvement ethos.


* This role involves both office-based and plant-based work.

* This position exists to undertake a discipline specific project engineering role or manage and direct a team of Multi Disciplined Development engineers in the installation and commissioning of major and minor plant and equipment on the Integrated Work Sites and can be required to act as designated Project Engineer for major capital developments.

* To control the project process and it's appropriation ensuring adherence to procedures through regular audits.

* To improve the project process through regular review and application of Continuous Improvement.

* To report progress to enable accurate CAPEX planning and tracking.



* Ideally a HND or degree (or equivalent experience) in an appropriate engineering discipline
* Health & Safety Qualification IOSH or equivalent
* Preferable to be a Chartered Engineer
* Experience in heavy industries like steelmaking or oil and gas
* Experience in design, contract negotiation, manufacture, installation and commissioning of Plant for major capital schemes.


* Good communication skills - both written and verbal.
