Are you an experienced Purchasing Manager who is looking for a new opportunity to work in a successful Manufacturing business? Then this may be the perfect opportunity for you!


A maternity cover contract position has become available for the Engine Business unit based in Darlington starting ideally in January to allow for handover.

Working with 4 other Purchasing Managers with key stakeholders in the Assembly Plants across the UK & North US. Liaising with circa. 25 Suppliers across the E.U including Germany France & the UK predominantly.

This role involves high level purchasing management; looking at continuity of supply - capacity & materials, allocation across the plants, price negotiations and some new contract negotiations. There is strong links to the Global Assembly leader in the US and the Purchasing Managers are very much a part of that global team

This is a very intense role and due to the technical nature of the products are assembling technical knowledge, understanding of parts and a background in a similar industry really is a must for this role.

They will need to ability to work to strong time lines and manage the expectations of senior leaders in the business.

Job Summary:

Conducts complex analysis of markets, supply chains, and supply base; applies analysis to purchasing process improvement initiatives. Identifies qualified suppliers and executes sound source selection processes.

Has regular interface with suppliers within area of responsibility and maintains the supplier relationship. Understands how key purchasing principles are used toward assuring supply.

Key Responsibilities: Independently carries out sourcing activities with full consideration for the impact of those activities on the end-to-end supply chain.

Executes sourcing tactics of varying complexity in accordance with established category/commodity strategies reflecting the optimum cost, quality, delivery. Participates in sourcing and commodity strategy formulation. Analyses complex sourcing and purchasing initiatives and processes in support of the delivery of cost effective and high quality goods and services.

Prepares and presents to senior purchasing/sourcing leadership recommendations of improvement opportunities and alternative courses of action. Ensures consistent application of sourcing procedures and processes.

Supports purchasing/sourcing management in activities such as price benchmarking, vendor management, industry and market analysis, process analysis, and model building. May lead a team of sourcing analysts and specialists at the business unit and/or international purchasing organisation (IPO) regional level.

Leads analysis projects/initiatives providing coaching to less experienced analysts and specialists. Negotiates select contracts. Develops and maintains effective relationships with suppliers to the benefit of both parties. Understands the importance of compliance and is alert to situations that can pose risks.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Analyse issues - Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of analysing issues. Critically identifies an issue's scope and parameters while analysing it from multiple perspectives. Determines the root causes as well as broad implications of issues. Integrates information and defines an array of alternatives. Applies a wide variety of analytical tools and processes (e.g. Six Sigma) on a regular basis to complete key projects and solve complex problems. Develop systems, processes - Solid understanding of how to develop systems and process. Applies systems and processes to improve and complete work at a team/departmental level. Works to eliminate system and process inefficiencies and roadblocks. Demonstrates consistent use of structured work documentation (e.g. communication channels, work steps, procedures, checklists, or flow charts)

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

College, university, or equivalent degree in supply chain management or a related subject required.


Intermediate level of related work experience required (e.g., three year's prior experience).
