Are you an experienced science technician, or do you have a passion for science, an A Level in science and thinking that this could be a career for you? This is a permanent opportunity working within the education sector within the Swindon area. Working full time hours over 42 weeks of the year, you will be offered a salary depending on your experience between £17,787 to £20,070 on a full time equivalent (£16,418 to £18,526 pro rata).

I am recruiting for this opportunity for one of my clients based in Swindon within the education sector. Ideally starting in September, you will play a key role in the successful running on the science department, ensuring that all lessons are equipped and able to run. You will be providing technical assistance to all members of the science team, with particular reference to Chemistry. On a day to day basis your responsibilities will be;
*Preparing practical lessons
*Preparing and setting out materials and equipment.
*Advising on their correct use, and assist with demonstrations if required.
*Clearing down materials and equipment, checking all equipment before storage and ensuring the correct disposal of all waste materials according to Health and Safety Regulations.
*Carrying out trials of new experiments.
*Designing and constructing apparatus, where appropriate.
*Maintaining relevant stock records, recording and storing appropriately all new materials and equipment, and subsequent disposal.
*Monitoring stock levels, ensuring availability at all times.
*Completing provisional orders, making recommendations on best sources of materials.
*Advising on the purchase of new or replacement equipment as required.
*Checking apparatus and equipment after use, carrying out 'first line' repairs, if necessary.
*Checking work and storage areas at the end of the day, ensuring they are left safe and secure.

You will also be required to ensure all aspects of Health and Safety are adhered to at all times by;
*Ensuring that safe working practices are employed at all times.
*Distributing relevant hazard information, advising staff and students on risk assessment.
*Ensuring all materials and equipment are stored correctly

Skills and experience required;
Ideally you will have previous experience of working as a science technician, although if you have a keen interest in science and have a minimum of an A Level in science and feel this could be a chosen career path for you, then please do consider this opportunity.

You will be working in the education sector, therefore a full 2 years of referencing will be obtained along with an enhanced DBS check. You will be required to attend an interview with myself and with the client, and an offer will be made to the successful candidate pending the required checks.
