A leading, well established Autism Specialist Unit in Bradford is looking to appoint an autism specialist on a long term contract basis until Easter (with the potential to extend longer), to provide essential and life changing support to their pupils with ASD. The successful applicant will have experience working with those on the Autism Spectrum, and have a strong theoretic understanding of the disorder, but more importantly a practical understanding of how best to engage students on the spectrum effectively. This is a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity to make a difference in these children's lives through an understanding and caring approach to education with a specialist focus. The successful applicant will be required to support children with complex needs, both in the classroom and throughout their school day to effectively engage them with their work and learning. the school has a welcoming and proactive ethos, with a mission to provide their students with teachers and support staff who have a passion for education and learning.

The role will include:
To work both 1:1 and in groups with children in a variety of different classes
De-escalate challenging behaviour students may express and re-direct their focus elsewhere
Liaise with support staff to ensure the smooth running of the class
To support the general well-being of the students
To monitor and evaluate learners learning
Enable learners to access the curriculum through a variety of techniques
Working with the class teacher and other school staff to best support the students in your care

Requirements:
Experience of working with those on the Autism Spectrum is essential for this role
To be able to work with learners with various learning difficulties
To be able to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
A desire to encourage children to succeed
A caring, patient and calm personality
Have an understanding of children with special needs
Be flexible in approach to education
