job description

Caretaker required on a part time permanent basis to work at a College in Lincoln.

Job Purpose:

To provide and maintain a caretaking standard in line with College Strategy and Values. This post will be based predominantly at the Lincoln College but will also be required to carry out duties at another site in East Yorkshire occasionally.

Main Tasks:

1 Security:

To be responsible for the physical security of the College buildings and premises, including setting alarm and security systems . This will include out of hours keyholder responsibilities.

1 Heating and Lighting:

* To ensure the heating provision is to a temperature required by law, including the ordering of fuel oils
* To ensure all lighting functions fully.(including emergency lights)

1 Portering:

* To receive goods and equipment for the College, ensuring allocation to the correct department/section. This will include the receipt of fuel
* To assist in the movement of furniture and other porterage duties.
* Ensure room set ups are actioned daily as per request.

1 Cleaning Duties:

To clean areas (including external campus areas) as directed by the Campus Manager. This includes the clearance and disposal of refuge, litter and other waste

1 Repairs and Maintenance:

To carry out minor repairs and maintenance on the College buildings and estate. This includes reporting all defects in buildings, equipment etc. to the Campus Manager.

Under the direction of relevant staff maintain areas of the College grounds.

1 Health and Safety:

To be responsible for:

* To support the Campus manager with the delivery of an effective winter weather programme
* Maintaining clearways, corridors and staircase enclosures
* In potentially hazardous situations, take immediate action to instigate minor repairs
* To check electrical equipment as required
* To report major hazards which require work/repair
* To switch off main services in case of emergency
* Monitor water temperatures for legionella prevention
* Ensure all storage areas are maintained and comply with Health and safety

1 Performs such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
2 Take part in all staff College events such as Lambing Sunday and Town & Country Day.

Qualifications/ Skills:

* Caretaking within an educational facility
* Customer care, Health & Safety(incl COSHH regulations)
* Tractor driving
* Basic Plumbing\ Electrical
* Basic joinery


25 hours per week.

Rotating morning (5.30am - 10.30am) and evening (1.30pm - 6.30pm) shifts.

25 days holiday + bank holidays.

£8.70 per hour

Some requirement for more hours during weekends and general holiday cover.
