Engineering Manager

We currently have the requirement to recruit an experienced Engineering Manager into our Shapfell based site, offering the successful candidate, the opportunity to work autonomously, in this varied and challenging role at this profitable site.

Our clients limestone quarry and lime kilns, located in Cumbria, has been producing quicklime and limestone products of the highest quality since 1962.

The Role

As the Engineering Manager, your role will be to control, manage and direct site-wide engineering activities. In this capacity, you will be responsible for the cost-effective major and minor maintenance for all mechanical and electrical equipment, and for ensuring an efficient operation.

You key accountabilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

* To ensure the Engineering department achieves optimum plant availability, measured against CAMF standards and against overall operations' lime volume and quality. Recommends and directs actions to improve equipment, correct adverse deviations or replace failing assets.
* To plan, direct and monitor annual engineering expenditure in accordance with defined budgets (overall spends of up to £1M p.a.). Ensures maintenance programmes are completed to time and budget.
* To plan and manage engineering-based capital developments for the site, to achieve improved plant performance, availability, cost-efficiency and asset performance, on projects up to £2M. Ensure plans are completed on time and to budget.
* As required for above, the job-holder manages staff to achieve major, minor and capital engineering developments successfully. Establishes and maintains high standards in discipline, safety and housekeeping by monitoring and reviewing performance. Promotes and develops engineering staff to achieve high standards from the department in innovation, CI, daily management, CAMF activities and team-working.
* Ensure all legislative requirements (including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, process / gas safety, engineering equipment including for example lifting regulations) are fully satisfied; ensures statutory and mandatory requirements for safe plant operations are fully controlled; ensures regular monitoring and maintenance of both environmental and safety control equipment takes place. Where required acts as Plant Responsible Person (e.g. for lifting operations, plant electrical safety); to fulfil these duties requires a degree of specialist knowledge in several areas.
* Regularly monitors Senior Craftsmen / Supervisor's performances, and career development, identifies and arranges training, and develops viable succession planning.
* Keeps abreast of new technology / techniques in process development and product quality improvements.

The Candidate

* To be selected for this opportunity, you will demonstrate yourself to be a self-starter with the ability to lead and manage an engineering team on an island site.
* Educated to degree level in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), You will require a significant and broad range of engineering knowledge and skills, acting as Plant Responsible person for a range of engineering functions. This will ideally have been gained through experience in a similar role and in a heavy engineering environment.
* In addition to this, you will need to have both the experience and the ability to effectively manage and control a team and resources / budgets.
* Strong communication, and established influencing skills will be paramount to your success.
