job description

I am recruiting an Environmental Health Officer based in Cleveland.

This is a temporary job role, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday on an ongoing basis.

The payrate is £16.71.

Duties of the role include:



* Maintain and keep under review the systems for ensuring the effective delivery of specialist services throughout the Borough and to meet performance targets in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
* Laise with the Housing Service Manager and Housing Standards Team Leader on the development on new policies and interpretation of statutes to accomodate new duties placed upon the Council through legislation


* Respond to and deal with complaints, requests for service and enquiries received by the section efficiently
* Examine and prepare reports, attend Committee or other meetings as required and where necessary recommend conditions in respect of plans submitted for Building Regulation approval, Planning Permission and other environmental health responsibilities.
* Assist in the delivery of housing renewal and private sector housing related programmes within the borough.
* Supervise and monitor the workload of technical and clerical staff within the Section.
* Collecting of evidence in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (as amended) and the preparation of necessary statements of evidence and reports and the giving of evidence in Court, Public Inquiry, Tribunal etc in the course of instigating legal proceedings.
* Evaluating evidence to support offences under the relevant legislation and in appropriate cases recommend and instigate legal proceedings.

Requirements of the role include:



* Experience of working in an enforcement role including gathering evidence in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
* Current UK driving license
* Certificate of registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB);
* BSc Hons. in Environmental Health or Diploma in Environmental Health or MSc Environmental Health/Environmental Science
* Knowledge of housing legislation.
* Knowledge of statutory nuisance and enforcement procedures.
