A leading Construction firm is seeking to grow their existing team of Flood Risk Economists by recruiting a Flood Risk Consultant and a Senior Flood Risk Consultant to specialise in flood economic analysis. You will work alongside the Lead Flood Risk Economist and other members of this team to support the economic assessment of flood defence and mitigation schemes.

You will be responsible for working closely with the existing flood risk team which includes a range of hydraulic modellers, civil engineers and flood risk specialists working at different levels to identify flood mitigation options from Initial Assessment to Full Business Case stage.

As a Consultant Economist you will be familiar with economic appraisal using the Multi Coloured Manual (MCM). You should have experience of supporting economic appraisal of options at both the detailed and strategic levels. You will have excellent problem solving and analytical skills and be passionate about using these to solve real world flood and coastal risk management issues.

In addition to the above a Senior Economist you will be expected to have a high level of competence in MCM economic appraisal as well as alternative benefit appraisals. You should have demonstrable experience of economic analysis of fluvial, coastal and surface water flood risk management options. You should have a passion for mentoring junior team members through project delivery and provide expert Quality Assurance to project deliverables. You should be ready to support and sometimes lead innovation. As a Senior member of staff, you should be Chartered or near-Chartered status with the relevant professional body (e.g. CIWEM, ICE).

What you will do:

* Cost benefit analysis
* Partnership funding calculations and contribution identification
* Socio economic analysis
* Scheme appraisal and options assessment
* Development of business cases for a range of schemes
* Contribute to authoring Initial Assessments, Outline Business Cases and Final Business Cases
* Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues and work co-operatively across functions and business units to share information and ideas

Senior only

* Be responsible for the technical quality of work carried out within the team, provide supervision of projects, review and check work and provide leading technical skills as a technical specialist with minimal guidance
* Work closely with other senior staff to enable delivery of the wider team workload

Your experience will include:

* Bachelor level qualification
* Extensive experience of working with the Environment Agency, developers or Local Authorities in the context of flood risk management
* Good GIS skills to support your practical work
* Extensive technical skill in economics (including associated software packages)
* Excellent numeracy and analytical skills
* Good communication including professional report writing
* Experience managing the technical delivery of own work
* Previous experience undertaking quality assurance reviews and audits of technical works undertaken by others.

Senior only

* Chartered / near Chartered member of a recognised professional body
* Experience of line managing or mentoring junior staff.
* Experience managing the technical delivery of projects/packages
