Head Gardener - London

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Gardener with driving experience to maintain various parks and open spaces in the Borough.
Responsibilities are:
- To ensure staff assigned and others within the wider teams are motivated to achieve targets within a customer focused and professional service as required by the staff competency framework.
- Line management of assigned operatives to ensure best operational practice, effective learning of assigned staff, and health and safety is achieved at all times.
- To adopt and activity promote effective and professional day to day management of operatives, including when required implementation of first stage capability and or disciplinary procedures.
- To ensure effective security of depots, materials and equipment assigned to the role.
- Ensure the diversion of waste away from disposal by effective recycling, and minimisation as agreed by the line manager.
- To adopt and activity promote effective and professional day to day management of operatives, including when required implementation of first stage capability and or disciplinary procedures.
- To support the wider street scene and parks team in the preparation of reports and analysis of data including play area inspections, task tickets and general reports.
- To carry out duties in accordance with Council policies and be proactive, motivated and committed to the service.
To deliver that you must be able to demonstrate:
- Ability to drive parks vehicles(including trailers if required)
- Positive attitude in all work situations
- Ability to operate parks related machinery
- Mobility across the Borough
- Ability to work outdoors and in all weathers to ensure ongoing service delivery
- Willingness to wear uniform and protective clothing
- Willingness to work where chemicals have been used.
- Experience and able to manage staff and organise a Borough work schedule to include tractor maintenance , sports pitch maintenance, litter clearance and general Gardening
- Able to communicate effectively orally, in writing and via ICT Systems and ability to communicate with all parks and green space users and staff alike.
- Ability to work on own or as part of a team to achieve set goals and targets.
- Ability to complete paperwork/timesheets including managing annual leave and sickness and input information via agreed ICT systems as required.
- Experience and able to drive Council vehicles and Horticultural equipment as required, be able to tow a trailer, at all times adhering to the Council's Driver's Handbook.
- Ability to interpret and follow work schedules, specifications and plans.
- Ability to identify sport turf problems / diseases and take appropriate action.
- Experience and ability to maintain and mark out / over mark sport pitches such as football, rugby, cricket, Australian Rules and all types of running tracks
