Legal Officer

£11.43 p/h

Christchurch

A leading Housing Association has an exciting position for a proven Legal Officer, to contribute positively towards their vibrant team in Christchurch.



* 6-8 weeks
* 37 hours per week
* Monday - Friday (Flexible hours)
* Occasional travel to Newbury Office

This role is a very varied position, some of your duties will be:



*

Carrying out the legal work needed for staircasing of Shared Ownership leases including obtaining valuations preparation of the memoranda and drafting of the Transfer in the case of full staircasing of a house, getting in completion funds, notifying other teams when a matter completes.


*

Carrying out the legal work needed on behalf of the landlord when a leaseholder's mortgagee pursues repossessions of Shared Ownership leases; including all the work relevant to assignments and full staircasing plus checking and approval of the mortgagee protection clause financial statement.


*

Dealing with assignments of long leases on behalf of the landlord (not generally for Shared Ownership leases) including collating and providing replies to the leaseholder's solicitors enquiries and the surrender and regrant of leases where indicated by the legal title.


*

Dealing with applications made by Sovereign residents for purchasing their properties under "Right to Buy" or "Right to Acquire" legislation including checking the qualifying conditions and proceeding with the sales in accordance with the legislative procedure, to include preparation and completion of the transfer document and financial statements, getting in completion funds, notification to all relevant internal teams.

Dealing with the sale of small areas of land in response to approved applications to buy - in liaison with other teams, preparation of appropriate sale deeds and getting in of funds.


*

Dealing with such other property law related legal matters as needed from time to time such as party wall arrangements, licences for various activities, deeds of easement, wayleaves et cetera and providing assistance to other members of the legal team when needed and appropriate.


*

Dealing with various other smaller legal matters which includes residents/private owners consent to make home improvements, record keeping including signing and sealing in relation to deeds of covenant for estate charge liability, Providing confirmation of ownership for applications for disabled facilities grants


*

Taking responsibility for the drafting and review of internal procedures for the better management of transactions for which the Legal Officer is involved.


*

Working closely with other members of the Legal Team and with solicitors employed by the Group to carry out charging/securitisation work, carry out the day to day administrative tasks that relate to retrieval distribution and appropriate storage of the title and other information/documents required in order to give good certificates of title to lender's solicitors.


*

Assisting with the need for completion of regulatory material including contributing to the contents of reports and supplying required information or statistics.


*

Acting as an assistant to the Group Solicitor in relation to secretarial and administration needs of the Group Solicitor and specific administration with regard to the external panel solicitors, document management needs of the Group and the Legal and Governance team, use of advancing technology such as GIS and new software in connection with the provision of information and documents on law matters for the Group.


*

General administration support for the Legal Team as required including training and carrying out supervision of other officers in the team and contributions to the Legal and Governance Bulletin as required by the more senior members of the Legal and Governance Team.


*

Participation in team and department meetings and changes to procedures/methods of working with others including minute taking.

A qualification + experience in property law (law degree or above or equivalent). Alternatively, an equivalent level of knowledge gained from employment (e.g. strong experience as a property paralegal).

Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to communicate clearly; both verbally and in writing


* Due to a requirement to travel between offices within this role, a current driving licence and your own transport is essential.
* IT Literate, with reasonably fast and accurate typing and good knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel and database use.
* Demonstrate a clear and structured approach to completing work, with the ability to ensure accuracy and attention to detail under time pressure.
