Are you looking for a new role as a Exterior Applications Engineering Manager? Do you want to work for a leading car manufacturer based in the West Midlands? If the answer is yes, this role is for you!

The Exterior Applications Engineering Manager will lead the development and integration of Exterior trim and Body Mechanism systems and components on new vehicle programmes as part of cross-functional application team.

This is a fantastic permanent opportunity to play a key role and to work for an industry leader!

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

* Represent Body Exterior functions in the cross-functional application.
* Define Body Exterior change content in response to Strategic Evaluation Letter (SEL)
* Work with leader and platform (core) engineering team to ensure that Body Exterior commodities integrate effectively with other commodities to achieve overall vehicle programme targets.
* Prepare and maintain standardised documents including Engineering Concept Matrix BoM and Final Engineering Sign-Off to describe and report status of parts applied to the project.
* Work with cost estimating and purchasing functions to establish appropriate piece and tooling cost targets and maintain cost tracker.
* Coordinate functional actions relating to piece/tooling cost gap closure and challenge and optimise D&D costs
* Ensure on time system selection and sourcing for all Body Exterior commodities.
* Track and ensure closure of all open Body Exterior concerns at all stages of the programme in line with required build phase implementation.
* Ensure parts / designs for all new programme content are available at required maturity and quality for all physical and virtual builds
* Responsible for on time submission and approval of all Body Exterior releases applicable to the programme
* Responsible for achievement of required attribute targets, including mass, for all unique programme content.
* Develop and maintaining the design validation plan (DVP) for all unique programme content and ensure development and sign-off tests are completed on schedule.

Qualifications and Experience

* Engineering degree (or equivalent)
* Experience within automotive engineering / product development
* Prior experience in development and/or integration of Body exterior trim and/or mechanisms components and systems on new vehicle programmes
* Proven project management skills and ability to deliver engineering solutions on time to cost, quality and attribute targets
* Understands testing and validation requirements for automotive body systems
* Good grasp of engineering fundamentals and familiar with problem solving and failure mode avoidance techniques including DFMEA
* Familiar with manufacturing techniques, technology and industry benchmarks applicable to Exterior Trim and Mechanisms
* Proficient in the use of Teamcentre / VisMockup to interrogate designs
* Able to balance conflicting requirements within cross-functional teams and positively influence decisions on product definition and design.
* Thorough, data-driven approach to solving engineering issues
* Role may require periods of working at other manufacturing site(s) in the UK and occasional travel to suppliers in UK and Europe.
