The Role: Specialist Maths Education in Cambridge
We are recruiting for an experienced and committed Qualified Teacher of Maths (QTS) to join a specialist SEN school in the Cambridge area on a part-time basis
This is a unique opportunity to shape the mathematical education of students who have a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and associated complex needs. You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering differentiated Maths lessons across key stages, focusing on functional skills and achievable qualifications/accreditations (e.g., Entry Level Certificates, Functional Skills).
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver highly differentiated and imaginative Maths lessons that cater to individual EHCP targets and diverse learning styles, making abstract concepts concrete and relatable.
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, ensuring accurate record-keeping and contributing to EHCP reviews.
- Create a structured, supportive, and positive classroom environment where students feel safe to take risks and explore mathematical concepts.
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants (TAs) and the wider multi-disciplinary team (e.g., therapists) to ensure holistic and consistent support for all learners.
- Implement appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies, promoting self-regulation and positive engagement.
- Maintain excellent communication with parents/carers regarding student progress and curriculum delivery.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, along with a degree in Mathematics or a related field.
- Proven experience teaching Maths across different Key Stages (KS3-KS4), with a strong focus on delivering the curriculum to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- Expertise in teaching functional mathematics and preparing students for relevant accreditation pathways (e.g., Functional Skills, Entry Level).
- A clear understanding of the challenges faced by students with complex needs (especially ASD) and the ability to adapt teaching methods accordingly.
- Exceptional classroom management skills and a proactive, patient, and resilient approach to teaching.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
