What is the role of a nursery nurse?

A nursery assistant is an individual that provides care for children aged between new born up to the age of five or six. They can help the children to grow into independent individuals thus helping to prepare them for life beyond the nursery walls. While also following a basic curriculum, a nursery nurse helps to increase a child's development in their numeracy, literacy and communication skills before entering into a primary school reception class.

The nursery aims to provide a positive experience for their children during their time under their care. They strive to promote a positive developmental environment to their children to help ensure a constructive atmosphere for the children of all ages. This is achieved through basic activities for the younger children such as learning the alphabet and order of numbers to more complex activities for the older children such as writing their names and reading to the teachers.

Some other responsibilities of the role include:

* Supporting the children positively through their development in accordance to the EYFS
* Helping to sustain and develop a strong relationship with the parents/careers of the children
* Helping to feed and change the younger children while supervising the older children in similar activities
* Helping to create and run different developmental activities for a small number of children along side other members of staff
* Keeping record of the accomplishments of the children throughout the day to communicate back to the parents/careers.

Requirements of a successful candidate:

* Be CACHE Level 3 qualified or equivalent (preferable but not essential)
* Have experience working with children in a nursery environment
* Have knowledge of the EYFS or the willingness to complete research
* Have knowledge of Ofsted and the requirements they expect from careers within childcare
* Have great communication and teamwork skills with a variety of individuals

This position needs filling as soon as possible and the candidate should have a DBS on the Update service or the willingness to complete a new one with Randstad.
