Overview of Role

My client is seeking a Planning Manager to join their Barnet based joint venture. The successful individual will be an employee of London Borough of Barnet and Regional Enterprise Ltd and responsible for the management and performance of a team of professional development management planners and technical staff.

The role has delegated authority to sign off planning decisions on behalf of the Service Director of Planning and Building Control for the London Borough of Barnet.

Requirements



* Degree in Planning or Planning related subject (essential).
* Previous experience in managing a team of planning professionals (essential).
* Excellent technical knowledge of the English Town Planning system (essential).
* Demonstration of understanding of administrative processes relating to the processing of planning applications and pre-applications (essential).
* Ability to lead and motivate a large team of planning professionals (essential).
* Previous practical experience of writing and implementing business cases (desirable).
* Previous practical experience of supporting staff remotely (desirable).
* Previous practical experience of delivering and supporting Planning Performance Agreements (desirable).

Responsibilities



* Responsible for the management and performance of a team of professional planners and technical staff.
* Coordinate and work with both internal and external stakeholders, including staff, partners, residents, technical advisers and communications experts to drive up standards of the application service.
* Promote a culture of high performance and drives quality of development in the Borough.
* Identifies and maximise opportunities to increase revenue strands including business cases, pre-application, fast-track services and Planning Performance Agreements
* Monitors the quality of vetting and registration of applications.
* Represents the Council and Regional Enterprise at public meetings including but not limited to committee, hearings, enquiries and Court
* Makes planning decisions at levels agreed by the Director of Planning & Building Control.
* Reports directly to the Head or Deputy Head of Development Management.
