Are you an experienced Purchasing professional with the ability to effectively manage supplier relationships & cost efficiency?

If so Randstad have an exciting opportunity with a leading Irish based distribution group supplying into the engineering and construction sectors and have an immediate requirement for a Purchasing Officer to join an established organisation in the Lisburn area.

Qualifications and experience

Previous Purchasing Officer/Purchasing management experience essential



* Experience operating with a Pegasus Opera II/ III accountancy stock management system essential
* Ability to handle multiple vendors & suppliers
* Confident negotiation skills
* Excellent attention to detail & strong organisational skills
* Highly proficient user of Excel & Microsoft office
* Knowledge of the construction/engineering/industrial sectors desirable

Responsibilities



* Source & liaise with vendors of materials, equipment or supplies in order to determine product availability and terms of sales
* Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment
* Forecast levels of demand for services and products
* Conduct research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
* Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers
* Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
* Negotiate and agree contracts, monitoring the quality of service provided
* Approve payments and invoices
* Develop strategies to make sure that cost savings and supplier performance targets are met or exceeded
* Keep a constant check on stock levels & price trends
* Drive department efficiency's, stream line existing processes and control the purchasing department budget
* Evaluate bids and make recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
* Ensure suppliers are aware of business objectives
* Propose improvements to the current purchasing system that will improve vendor relationships and lower the cost of doing business
* Collaborate with inventory control and sales to develop metrics for gauging inventory level needs and then maintaining those levels throughout the year
* Assist in developing more effective invoicing and collecting processes
* Take the lead in creating profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses
