Are you a registered Mental Health Nurse, interested in working with a small number of individuals within a dedicated unit which specialises in supporting challenging behaviours and mental health conditions? Are you a compassionate nurse who thrives on supporting patients with very-high needs? is comfortable dealing with very high-needs patients? If so, this could be just the role for you!

A ward in Carlisle, Cumbria is currently seeking a Mental Health Nurse to work on a rota basis for the next 2-3 months. The individual should have great communication skills, and a passion for working with individuals with Mental Health conditions/Learning Disabilities and being their advocate.

This Mental Health Nurse role involves nursing 4x male patients, all of whom requires increased observations and have a high level of need from both the nurses and HCA's around them. Excellent verbal communication is a great benefit for this role, as patients can require verbal de-escalation. The successful individual will be joining a long-standing and diligent team, who have an excellent knowledge of the patients they care for and who are committed to providing person-centred care.

The Mental Health Nurse must have PMVA training due to the nature of the work - Randstad are able to provide this if needed.

Shift patterns and days/nights can be negotiated depending on the wants/needs of the RMN. Day shifts run between 07:30-20:00 and night shifts are between 19:30-08:00.

The Mental Health Nurse's typical shift could involve:
- Administration and safe management of controlled and prescribed medications
- Being part of 'facilitated community leave' for eligible patients, and accompanying them into the local town for lunch, shopping or going for a walk.
- Updating care plans and completing incident forms if they are required
- Mentoring and demonstrating good standards of care to Band 2/3 health care assistants. Monitoring their practice to ensure it is up to standard.
- Clinically documenting progress notes and updating patient's 'Grab Sheet' when needed
- Participating in MDT meetings and handovers. Writing handovers for the next shift's staff to pick up
