The Research Funding Manager will take a leading role in the implementation and management of an effective and efficient pre-award support service within the Research Operations Office (ROO).

Be responsible for the review and approval of budget costings and submission of research applications on behalf of the School within agreed service levels determined by the Head of Research Operations (HRO).

This is a customer focused role providing excellent support and advice to academics and department staff submitting research applications, advising on funder's terms and conditions and how to maximise cost recovery.

The Research Funding Manager will lead a team of Funding Officers within the ROO, taking responsibility for assessing and distributing workload across the team, and providing support and development to staff members to enable them to deliver an excellent service to the School.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with staff across the School in order to maintain awareness of requirements, and establish strong links with external bodies, including research funders to ensure good knowledge of the contractual and regulatory landscape for research in higher education.

Essential Requirements

* Higher education to degree level, or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience, with a financial
* background
* Postgraduate management degree or professional financial training or equivalent knowledge acquired by experience
* Experience Substantial experience of research funding within the Higher Education sector
* Experience of research funder's online systems, such as JE-S, ERA Commons, Grants.Gov, ECAS
* Leadership experience including delegation, performance management and motivation and coaching a team
* Providing informal or formal guidance and training
* Communicating complex information to non-specialists
* Experience of promoting excellence in the provision of support services, including the setting of service standards and monitoring performance
* Experience of working in an academic environment and working closely with academic staff
* Recruiting, managing and developing individuals effectively
* Introducing policies, procedures, processes and systems effectively
* Developing written guidelines and training materials
* Producing clear content for the web
* Financially literate with sound knowledge of budgeting methodologies and resource management concepts including FEC and TRAC
