A warm and welcoming Pupil Referral Unit in Leeds is currently looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant to start work at their school in the New Year. The school is located in Leeds and accommodates pupils who are unable to access mainstream education due to a range of social, emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs. It is a secondary-aged setting, with children from 11 through to 18 years old.

The position is full time, long-term placement, with the potential to extend into a permanent role. The successful applicant will demonstrate a patient and caring disposition in working with vulnerable students who need extra support: they must also have the ability to build meaningful relationships with students and other staff, as well as the ability to remain resilient when dealing with challenging behaviour.

The role will include:
Supporting students with educational needs in class, as well as with their social/emotional needs throughout the day
Managing behaviour in line with the school's behavioural policy
Working proactively with other team members including the class teacher, other teaching assistants, and support staff
Ensuring the safeguarding of students

You must be:
Experienced in working with vulnerable young people or children with additional needs
Comfortable in managing challenging behaviour and confident in your ability to control it
Able to engage with, and build rapport with young people
Able to supply pastoral support to vulnerable students
Resilient when facing challenges, with the ability to remain calm when faced with difficult behaviour from students.
Team teach trained (essential)
Experienced as a teaching assistant (ideal)
