A through-age school in Leeds, with a reputation of supporting their staff and providing a welcoming work environment, are looking for a teaching assistant to support a child with sever hearing impairment. This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the student is able to get the most out of their day at school, learning to the best of their ability through the support, guidance, and translation of a teaching assistant. The successful applicant will need to hold a certificate in BSL at level 3 or more as it is essential that this child is able to understand their lessons and learn effectively. This is a long term role to go on until the end of the academic year, however, should you be looking for more work, Randstad have a variety of roles that you could consider once this contract has finished. The successful candidate will have the resiliency and empathy to engage the young student, as well as competent BSL skills to support them in class.

Your role will include:
Working with the student on a 1:1 basis, translating the lessons and supporting with school work
Establishing constructive relationships with both the 1:1 student, and the other children in school
Support class teacher and other support staff to maintain a positive working environment
Maintain a record and provide regular feedback about pupil to the teacher and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
Assist the school in communicating with parent and carers using appropriate approach
General TA responsibilities such as assisting the class teacher when needed

Key skills and experience needed:
Level 3 or more British Sign Language certificate essential
Commitment to and passion for working with children
Experience working in schools is ideal but not essential
Experience working or volunteering with children
Flexibility in approach to educating and supporting children
