A primary-aged special school located in Wakefield is looking for a SEN Teacher for their Severe Learning Difficulty class. It is a KS2 age group who are working at reception level; therefore, the successful applicant must have experience of the KS1 curriculum and special school experience. Within the classroom, the behaviours are low level and any challenging behaviour presented is usually as a result of ASD or other SEND diagnoses the children may have.

The role is to start in February and has a two week trial period. If successful, the candidate will then be taken on a permanent contract. This is a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity to make a difference in these children's lives through an understanding and caring approach to education with a specialist focus.

The role will include:
Planning, preparing and delivering engaging lessons at the appropriate curriculum level
Assisting children in the class to make sure they are on track
Liaising with support staff to ensure the smooth running of the class
Supporting the general wellbeing of the students
Monitoring and evaluating students' learning
Enabling learners to access the curriculum through a variety of techniques
Fully utilising the support of the Teaching Assistant to help with aspects of teaching and behaviour management

Qualified teacher status or equivalent is essential
Experience working in a SEN school is essential
KS1 experience, specifically reading, writing, and maths is essential
The ability to work with learners with various learning difficulties
A desire to encourage children to succeed
A caring, patient and calm personality
An understanding of children with special needs
Flexibility in your approach to education
