As a special educational needs (SEN) teaching assistant you'll work with children and young people who need extra support, or require an advanced programme of learning, in order to reach their full educational potential.


You may work with individuals who have sensory impairments (i.e. hearing or visual), speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties such as dyslexia, conditions such as autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, or have a combination of these difficulties. You may also work with gifted and talented individuals.


A key aspect of working in this field is identifying individual needs and being responsible for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

* Supporting students inside and outside the classroom, enabling them to participate in all activities
* Ensuring that every pupil is ready for the next steps in their learning
* Assisting teachers within the classroom
* Supporting students with a variety of different needs including ASD, ADHD and others
* Encouraging positive behaviours and using effective interventions when necessary

* Monitoring the behaviour and progress of a child/small group of children working to a supported curriculum

Requirements:
*A DBS on the update service
* Experience of working with children with additional needs
* A dedication to creating a positive learning environment to pupils who are eager to learn
* Being a resilient, caring and supportive person
