A well established Specialist School in York is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible in their year 8 class. It is a secondary school, accommodating for pupils aged 11-19 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities who struggle to access mainstream education. The classroom you will be supporting in is a severe learning difficulties class with 8 children, working at varying levels of the curriculum. The successful applicant will be supporting the class teacher and other TA's in the classroom throughout the day, with the focus of engaging the children in their work and helping them develop their skills. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a progressive school with an ethos of working with the students in a positive and encouraging way to help them achieve to the best of their ability. The successful applicant will have a patient and caring disposition; with the ability to quickly build meaningful relationships with students and their staff team.

The role will include:
Supporting the students both in the lessonS and during break times
Manage behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy and positive handling plans
Work proactively with other team members including the class teacher, other teaching assistants, and support staff
Ensuring the safeguarding of students at all times

Requirements:
Experience of working with children or adults with SEND needs
Be comfortable in managing challenging behaviour
Ability to engage with, and build rapport with children
Be creative, proactive and flexible in their supporting style
To be able to provide a nurturing and caring connection with the vulnerable student
Team teach certified is ideal
Experience as a teaching assistant in an SEN school is ideal
