This is a Senior Commercial Manager - heading up a £110m project before any additional costs / change.
Its a Petro Chemical Pipeline project.
You would be working for the main contrcator, who are in JV with a sister company petro-chem specialist.
The bulk of this project will be self delivered using the sister company.
Project Program is expected to be under 3 years.
You would be mentored and assisted by the Regional Commercial Director
Summary of Role:
Responsible to the Project Director for all commercial aspects of a a project turning over circa £45m per annum.
Provide support to the project and the wider parent organisation through an in depth understanding of contractual, commercial, insurance and legal processes.
Responsible for a team of project-based commercial staff, including selection and recruitment strategy. Expected to be a smallish team consiting of 4 QS's, so this is a hands on role.
Provides commercial support to the divisional business and group.
Working alongside the Project Lead undertaking the role of the Commercial lead for Soton to London Project interfacing with the Joint Venture, Petro Chemical client and the supply Chain. Also responsible for internal and external project reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and cost control. The Main Contract will be NEC 4.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Understand the commercial and technical impact of change at a strategic level within the industry and the effect on the customer's business
Actively supports organisational change
Actively seeks and promote "continuous change" - manages changing circumstances
Identify areas of non / low performance and implement suitable rectification measures
Ensure that the commercial processes and procedures are implemented on the project and monitor as appropriate.
Tendering and Pre-Contract Activities
Provide commercial advice to the tendering process when required
Prepare commercial reports for tenders when required
Take a key role in contract negotiations with clients and adopt a major part in achieving satisfactory outcomes in terms of profit and customer satisfaction
Define accurately and concisely the commercial parameters of opportunities, ensuing they are in line with the business plan.
Support development plans for capturing new opportunities
Contribute toward supply chain and commercial strategy post-tenders
Support the identification of key business drivers to determine the optimum commercial approach to bring value to both the main contractor and the customer
Start Up of New Projects
Ensures project start up procedures are implemented
Ensures procurement policy and process compliance on the project.
Ensuring compliance with supply chain strategy
Applications for Payment and Invoicing
Ensure cash flow and profit are maximised
Monitor and ensure prompt resolution of final accounts, including settlement of variations, claims and disputes
Manage, reduce and drive out unnecessary costs and inefficiencies on the project.
Accounting and Reporting
Manage the preparation of monthly site financial reporting (Project Manager Reports and Cost Value Reports)
Ensure the production of accurate and timely Project Accounts.
Report to the sector accounts meeting.
Verification and monitoring of monthly site financial reporting (Project Manager Reports and Cost Value Reports).
Risk and Opportunity Management
Identification of business risk and opportunities on the project.
Ensure that robust change control procedures are in place on the project.
Programming and Project Controls
Champion and promote programming skills development, where appropriate, earned value management
Ensure robust subcontract change control procedures are in place and adhered to.
Monitor and ensure prompt resolution of final accounts, including settlement of Compensation Events (variations), claims and disputes
Ensure projects are closed out in a timely fashion and that closure targets are achieved
MICES / MRICS - Preferred but not essential. The Group Commercial Director is not chartered.
10+ years experience. Preferable to have previous Civil Engineering / NEC experience.
