Student Support Worker - Learning Difficulties and Disabilities

Have a desire to help others? Want to make a difference to the life of another individual?

We are looking for individuals that aim to improve the life of students and help them achieve their goals. Working with students with a wide range of needs, including academic, social, emotional and physical. To bring you the pleasure of seeing them develop, grow, and fulfil their potential, whilst also empowering them with.

You will be supporting students who may have Special Educational Needs which could include Autism, Asperger's or moderate and severe learning difficulties, helping them achieve their potential by providing learning support both in and out of class, at a college in Leicester.

This role would suit someone who is looking for flexibility and term time hours. This is the perfect role to fit around your studies. You will be employed based on student needs and your individual availability.

Key Responsibilities



* To work under the direction of the teacher during sessions
* To develop learners' independence
* To develop learners' English and Maths skills
* Ability to keep students on task and engaged
* Ensuring the personal safety and well being of students and self at all times
* Provide support to students during breaks and lunch time
* Escorting students to and from taxis and during activities in the community
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to monitor students' progress and set new targets
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and students
* Students require a lot of social/emotional/pastoral support particularly within their friendship groups
* To deliver a high standard of support for learners with ALS needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
* Successful applicants must be suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults
* Helping visually impaired students

Desirable



* Experience of children/adults with ASD/Asperger Syndrome
* Experience of SLDD settings
* Experience in personal care
* An understanding of alternative methods of communication that could be used with non-verbal students - PECS and Makaton/BSL
