We are currently recruiting a number of residential support workers to work with support services within the Morecambe area. The service has been specifically designed and built to provide the highest standards of care and well being to adults with learning disabilities and mental health, Car drivers are essential.
As a residential support worker, your role will be to enable the service users to live as independent and fulfilling lives as possible. This will include positive risk taking, for example, something as simple as enabling the service user to make their own cups of tea with the appropriate risk assessments in place can create a strong sense of independence. You will be required to support the service users to reach their own goals and engage in activities that interest them, for example, access to local parks or visits out of the setting. If you are passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of others, I think you will find this role extremely rewarding.
Your responsibilities will also include:
Supporting the service users with evening/morning routines and ensuring privacy and dignity are respected at all times. This will include supporting service users with intimate levels of personal care.
Supporting service users to develop daily living skills. This can include everything from encouraging them to write a shopping list to preparing a Sunday lunch. Activities should be made fun and engaging.
Reporting incidents and risks to the general manager
Providing access to the community and supporting the service users.
Being able to work flexibly, not only to regards to rota patterns but also the ways in which you support the service users.
Promote independence through the prompting of medication where appropriate and administering medication if required
