Day to Day Learning Support Assistants

Are you a Learning Support Assistant who is seeking a new challenge, one that will utilise all your skills?

Learning Support Assistants with a proactive and caring nature are being sought for a specialist school where all the requirements for students are considered and catered for.

The school has a delightful atmosphere. It benefits from having the latest equipment and technology to assist the students with their basic needs and their educational ones.
All styles of learning are catered for e.g. the use of a sensory playground and hydrotherapy pools for physiotherapy, with classrooms which benefit from specifically designed areas to allow freedom of movement for the students and to suit the needs for technological advancement and the learning of the students.

As a day to day LSA, you would be energetic with a calming nature to balance out with being lively to motivate students to work, but calm to cater for quieter students. Using your initiative to get involved is greatly sought after, but you also need to liaise with the teacher regarding the lessons.

There is an element of personal care involved in this role as some of the learners here require this due to the nature of their needs.
The learners' ages vary from lower Primary to upper Secondary, so experience in either of these areas would be advantageous.

Your responsibilities will include:
* Taking direction from the teacher and using your own initiative
* Working in partnership with the other LSAs and health workers within the class
* Helping with social, welfare, care and health matters
* Attending to the students' personal needs
* Personal care assistance which may include dressing, toileting, feeding and mobility
* Working in partnership with teachers and other staff according to the policies and procedures

An ideal candidate would possess the following capabilities and competencies:
* Previous experience working with young people with special educational needs is essential
* To take the initiative and get involved in all aspects of teaching and learning
* Encouraging the development of a student's learning and use strategies to reengage them if necessary
* Knowledge of the Essex Steps programme
* Experience with dealing with challenging behaviour
* A literacy and numeracy test will be needed for successful candidates
