Are you flexible in working with different year groups?

Then we have the job for you!

One of our partner schools in Lewisham is looking for a teaching assistant to work with a child who has autism on a one to one basis. The school puts the children at the heart of every decision they make, ensuring they are happy and confident and that the opportunities provided are relevant to their needs both now and in the future. Our client is looking to take someone on ASAP with a possibility to be kept on for the next academic year! Our school would like a candidate who has had previous experience in working in primary schools and can come in and make a difference.

Job Responsibilities:

* Providing high-quality childcare
* Planning your day around the child you will be working with on a 1:1 basis
* Safeguarding children
* Demonstrating a positive and creative approach to behaviour management, building the confidence of your pupil
* Keeping the student focused and engaged in their learning, using different tools and methods
* Building a strong relationship with the class teacher in order to communicate more effectively
* Supporting children across all areas of learning with a variety of needs, while also promoting independence
* Liaising with the relevant class teachers and SENCO when required

Some benefits of the role:

* The opportunity to build upon previous skills and experience gained
* The potential for a long term position within the school
* Free parking
* An on-site canteen serving hot food
* A refer-a-friend scheme, giving you the chance to win £300
* Career development opportunities
* The chance to build relationships with supportive and outgoing colleagues
* The opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young children within the primary sector

Preferred Skills:

* Previous experience working with SEN children
* An understanding of safeguarding
* An understanding of OFSTED ratings and requirements
* Knowledge of the EYFS curriculum
* A DBS on the update service (or the willingness to complete a new DBS application)
* A basic understanding of speech & language and/or interventions

Personal Attributes:

* You must be passionate about working with children with SEN, and be determined to make sure that their learning experience is as comfortable and positive as possible
* You must be eager to learn and face new challenges every day
* You must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and parents
* You must be pro-active, understanding, empathetic and patient
* You must be punctual

We are actively interviewing candidates on behalf of the school and expect a high volume of applicants.
If you are interested in this position, please apply without delay. Should you be shortlisted, we will invite you to meet with us following a telephone interview, and complete a registration process before arranging an interview with the school.
