    Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

As an undergraduate teaching assistant you would be working with SEN children in KS3 and KS4 in secondary schools. This is a challenging role whereby you'd be responsible for supporting children with their behaviour (which can sometimes be challenging) and offering support and guidance for pupils in and out of the classroom. This role requires patience and the ability to form strong rapports with students of various ages. Ideally, you will also have strong maths and English skills in order to support pupils in those core subjects and have the ability to run out-of-class intervention sessions, either 1:1 or in small groups to maximise pupil progress and support their learning.

    Responsibilities:

    If you wanted to work as an undergraduate teaching assistant, you'll be asked to:

    • Directly working with children 1-1
    • Carrying out small group work with pupils
    • Engaging them in learning
    • Supporting the pupils with their behaviour by actively using the school's behaviour management strategies to support and engage the pupils
    • Working alongside other teaching assistants, and the SENCO, to support the pupils
    • Running intervention sessions that are tailored to each child's needs from pre-planned materials
    • Being a trusted adult that the pupils can turn to
    • Attending CPD sessions within the school to further develop your skills and knowledge
    • Turning to colleagues for support as and where needed

    Requirements:

    If you wanted to work as an undergraduate teaching assistant, you'll need to have:

    • 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths
    • Strong behaviour management skills
    • Confidence and strong communication skills
    • Previous experience working with children of various ages (either paid or voluntary)
