Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate within a team of educators to deliver a comprehensive curriculum, ensuring it is broad, balanced, and tailored to meet the needs of our students.
- Implement and oversee the delivery of the Key Stage English curriculum, including the development of policies, plans, and targets.
- Monitor and support student progress and development, providing guidance as both a teacher and Form Tutor when necessary.
- Foster a learning environment that encourages students to reach their full potential and actively contribute to raising standards of attainment.
- Contribute to the Academy's commitment to student growth, both academically and personally.
- Fulfil professional responsibilities outlined in the Staff Handbook.
Main Core Duties:
Academic:
- Develop schemes of work and lead curriculum development within the Key Stage.
- Stay abreast of national developments and research to enhance provision for students.
- Monitor the teaching of Key Stage English lessons, ensuring alignment with approved schemes of work.
- Evaluate student work and progress, providing constructive feedback to support their development.
- Identify and utilise appropriate resources efficiently and effectively, ensuring inclusivity for all students.
- Collaborate with SENCo and learning support staff to adapt mainstream lessons as needed.
Managerial:
- Ensure the efficient day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Key Stage, upholding high standards of work and behaviour.
- Provide support, challenge, and development opportunities to enhance teaching quality and motivation.
- Review and update departmental policies to align with school objectives.
- Promote the English subject within the school community.
- Manage Key Stage resources and monitor coherence of approach across departments.
- Oversee behaviour management in line with departmental policy.
- Evaluate teaching quality and student achievement, setting improvement targets as needed.
- Participate in staff appraisal and development activities.
Operational/Strategic Planning:
- Assist in the development of syllabuses, resources, and teaching strategies within the Curriculum Area and Department.
- Contribute to the department's development plan and its implementation.
- Collaborate with senior management to ensure teaching quality aligns with strategic objectives.
- Plan, prepare, and teach courses in line with curriculum requirements.
- Engage in whole Academy planning activities to support continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Qualified teacher status (QTS) with experience teaching English at the secondary level.
- Proven leadership abilities with strong organisational and managerial skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and lead initiatives effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with educational best practices.
