The energy sector in Scotland has received a welcome boost, after AKER solutions revealed it was creating 400 new posts in Aberdeen.

Specialists are particularly required in the fields of drilling technology and subsea engineering. Once the new staff members are in place AKER will become one of the north-east of Scotland’s biggest employers.

The move by <a href="http://www.akersolutions.com/"; target="_blank" title="akersolutions.com - new window">AKER is driven by the increasing global demand for energy that is causing North Sea producers to strive to increase output. This production drive will require the greater human resources that AKER will be able to provide through its recruitment initiative.

The news will come as a welcome boost to Scotland's beleaguered ministers, who have recently seen their moves to explore alternative forms of energy security frustrated by a Scottish grandmother's insistence on petitioning the UN for information about wind farms in her local area and revelations that wind turbine owners receive 1.2 billion in consumer subsidy from standard energy bills.

Speaking about the developments, Mike Forbes, Managing Director of AKERs Maintenance, Modifications and Operations UK business stated: "Recent contract wins across the Aberdeen business and a substantial order book in our subsea division mean that we will continue to add to our employee base over the next two years."

The new jobs should be filled towards the close of 2015 and will prove a useful boost to employment in the energy production sector.
