You must be aged 21 years or over, with a degree of life experience and maturity to cope with the responsibility. There is no upper age limit for fostering, but you need to be fit enough to care for the children.
-
am i able to foster if I am working?
This is assessed on an individual basis. There must be sufficient flexibility in your current role to meet the needs of the children in your care, and your fostering role should always be seen as a priority over any other work commitments.
-
how much will I get paid for looking after a child?
The amount you receive is split into two components: the foster carer fee and the maintenance allowance. The value of each depends on a variety of factors, such as the type of placement, the age of the child, and the complexity of their needs. Step Forward carers receive a significantly enhanced payment.
