It goes without saying that one of the sectors most impacted by the pandemic was the education sector: school closures made for an unusual year for staff, pupils and parents alike!

In order to support schools in closing the attainment gap for pupils impacted by this disruption, the government set up the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) to offer schools the opportunity to access discounted programmes of tuition through approved tuition partners. This catch-up tuition funding is in addition to the pupil premium and pupil premium plus funding, which schools may already be accessing to provide additional support to pupils who require it. And, in order to facilitate this tuition - that’s right, you guessed it - tutors are needed.

So, why should you become a NTP tutor with Randstad? Whether you’re fresh out of university and are looking to get some experience in the education sector, fancy earning extra around your existing schedule, or are looking for a way back into teaching after a career break, being a tutor could be perfect for you.

The benefits of becoming a tutor:

  • Work available in multiple locations
  • Career development
  • Flexibility
  • Earn extra income
  • CPD training

work available in multiple locations

Randstad is a national company working with schools and local authorities, and we have been providing tuition services to schools for over 20 years. Due to this, wherever you are based, we’ll be able to work with you to find sessions that fit your schedule. Plus, if you relocate at any point, you wouldn’t have to worry about registering with another agency, saving you time and allowing you to work continuously.

In addition to this, schools are able to access tuition support that is delivered both face to face and/or virtual, depending on the needs of the pupils, making for a truly flexible role for you. Plus, we provide training for all our tutors in providing both face to face and online support before you start working.

career development

Working as a tutor can be a fantastic way to get more experience in the education sector and ultimately advance your career. For example, you could start your career in education as a tutor, build up some classroom experience and then transition into teaching. Alternatively, if you are a trained teacher at the start of your career, tutoring is a great way to get teaching hours in.

Added to this, many tutors on our database are returning to work after career breaks or similar. They have found that tutoring is a simple way to get back into work, particularly as the hours are so flexible.

flexibility

Speaking of flexibility, tutoring shifts can easily be built around your existing schedule: your family, your degree, other jobs for example. Tuition sessions can occur within the school day, after school, at weekends and even in school holidays, so you can pick and choose when you work.

earn extra income

If you are looking for additional sessions to earn a bit extra, tuition is the way forward. Plus, when you work with Randstad you’ll also get access to exclusive discounts at your local shops and restaurants. Plus, we also have a market leading refer a friend scheme, which could mean you bag up to £300 when you refer a friend to us, and we get them out to work (ts&cs apply).

continuous CPD training

When you work with Randstad, you’ll get access to continuous professional development training to support your success in the role and your overall career development. You’ll also work with a dedicated Randstad Consultant who can give you tailored advice as you build your career with us.

Our Tutor Hayley Newton has her say

“Working as a tutor for Randstad on the NTP programme has been a very positive experience.

The sessions are conducted via the online platform Bramble. This allows the sessions to be recorded so that the pupil can refer back at any point for revision. Support from Consultants at Randstad is always available if there are any issues and swiftly dealt with in a professional manner.

Contact names at the school are provided in order to clarify the specific areas the pupil would benefit from additional help. Information about the needs of the pupil are provided from the onset so that the necessary planning and preparation can be arranged.

Working for Randstad on the NTP programme is rewarding, varied, enjoyable and informative. The pupils are keen to catch up on areas that they have missed and enjoy working on the Bramble platform to complete the work. Consultants are always available to assist throughout the process and Randstad also provides CPD opportunities.

Randstad also provided covid awareness training which was helpful not only to support the academic needs of pupils but also pastoral needs.”
