For over three decades, Randstad has been a trusted partner for talent in education, supporting children and young people from their first steps in school all the way through university. We offer a wide range of services, from expert tuition in core subjects like English and Maths to mentoring, enrichment programs, counselling, and alternative provision. We're proud to work with over 130 local authorities and thousands of schools and universities, helping them connect with qualified teachers, teaching assistants, mental health professionals, tutors, mentors, and SEND specialists. Our commitment to making a positive difference is evident in the impact we've made: in the last two years alone, we've provided over 700,000 hours of support to help pupils reach their full potential.
Supporting unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Children and young adults with informal English teaching and upskilling sessions.
Very often a young refugee, or unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Child (UASC) has been unable to access education in their country of origin or at best they have missed out on education for prolonged periods of time due to severe unrest in their home country.
Other young individuals may have had exposure to physical or mental abuse or unrest in their country of origin and have moved to the UK to seek asylum.
Engaging in education and proficiency in English language can, over time, empower these young adults to aspire to positive outcomes educationally and improve their life and social outcomes.
Randstad offers tailored support across four separate programmes:
- General English.
- Academic English.
- Business English.
- Young learners.

-
home language programme.
Randstad’s Home Language Programme enables pupils to achieve a GCSE in their native language — even if the school doesn’t formally teach it. While most schools offer only a small selection of Modern Foreign Languages, over 30 home and heritage languages are available for examination at GCSE level.
We provide tailored tuition for reading, writing, and speaking components, including support with recorded oral presentations where needed. Sessions are delivered by expert tutors either one-to-one or in small groups (up to 1:3), online or face-to-face, and can take place during the school day, evenings, weekends, or holidays.
All tutors are fully vetted, DBS-checked, and trained in safeguarding, with experience supporting vulnerable learners, including those with SEND, SEMH, or UASC backgrounds.
The programme helps schools broaden their language offer and gives pupils the opportunity to gain formal recognition in a language they already know — improving confidence, academic outcomes

FAQs
-
How do you assess the English language needs of individuals or groups before providing support?
English language proficiency scales are used by the devolved nations, and also in other English-speaking countries, as the evidence shows that it is this that is a key factor in predicting attainment.
Although the Proficiency in English Scale essentially provided no more than a screening tool with five generic bands (from A to E, with the five points being: New to English, Early acquisition, Developing competence, Competent and Fluent), their introduction required schools, many for the first time, to develop an approach to the assessment of their EAL learners.
-
What are the key benefits of your ESOL services for local authorities?
Improved reading skills: ESOL gives you the opportunity to practice your reading skills. You can quickly identify where you are lacking in specific skills and work to fill any gaps in knowledge. Enriching your vocabulary: ESOL gives you the chance to learn new words progressively and how to use them properly.
-
How do you measure the success and progress of your ESOL learners?
Every pupil undertakes baseline assessments in core subjects using Randstads Assessment Tool at the start of a programme of tuition. Tutors use this assessment tool to identify pupils strengths and improvement areas. Assessment data generates a personalised learning pathway, highlighting key areas of development and recommending interactive teaching resources used to enhance pupil engagement and learning. Pupils complete assessments at regular points, checking understanding and track impact and progress, empowering Tutors to adapt tuition as required.
