Job Title: Remote Commercial/Contract Lawyer
Location: Fully remote position
Salary: £50 - £60 per hour
Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking a highly experienced Commercial/Contract Lawyer to join our team on a fully remote basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a full caseload of complex matters, requiring a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience or equivalent.
Key Responsibilities:
... - Handle a full caseload of 25+ matters independently with limited supervision.
- Provide expert advice on a variety of commercial and procurement matters, including but not limited to procurement law, framework agreements, call off contracts, variations, negotiations, grant funding agreements, subsidy control advice, and construction contracts (NEC).
- Demonstrate awareness and experience of working in local authority and governance requirements, including contract procedure rules, advising on constitution, exemptions, key decisions, and providing advice on legal implications in officer decision records to award contracts.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external parties to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and legal standards.
Requirements:
- Qualified solicitor or someone with equivalent experience in commercial law and contract management.
- Previous experience working in a local authority environment is critical for this role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a remote setting.
- Demonstrated ability to hit the ground running and manage a high-volume workload effectively.
