Are you looking for a dynamic role in a secondary school that uses your excellent communication skills and confidence without requiring a teaching qualification (QTS)? We are seeking enthusiastic and assertive individuals to join us as a Cover Supervisor in Blackburn.
This role is perfect for those considering a career in teaching, recent graduates, or experienced professionals who enjoy working with young people and maintaining a purposeful learning environment.
The Role: Class Management and Support
As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, your primary responsibility is to supervise lessons and manage student behaviour when a regular teacher is absent. You will not be required to plan lessons or mark work. Your key tasks will include:
Classroom Supervision: Oversee classes across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (ages 11-18) during teacher absences, ensuring students remain focused and on-task with work set by the absent teacher.
Behaviour Management: Effectively implement the school's behaviour policy, maintaining a positive and orderly working atmosphere and dealing with any immediate issues promptly.
Support Learning: Respond to general queries from students regarding pre-set work, helping them access materials and stay engaged without providing subject-specific teaching.
Administrative Duties: Register student attendance and leave detailed, accurate notes for the returning teacher regarding lesson progress and work completed.
School Ethos: Act as a positive role model, promoting the school's values and maintaining high expectations for all students.
What We Are Looking For
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with teenagers.
Confidence: Strong behaviour management skills and the presence to lead a classroom of secondary students.
Experience: Previous experience working with groups of young people (e.g., school setting, youth work, coaching, or similar).
Education: A degree is advantageous, particularly for those considering future teacher training.
Attributes: Reliability, punctuality, and a flexible approach to working across different subject areas daily.
Compliance: A firm commitment to safeguarding and an Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
What We Offer
Competitive Pay: Weekly pay via PAYE (no hidden umbrella fees).
Career Kickstart: Ideal preparation for teacher training (PGCE/SCITT) with "front-of-class" experience.
Professional Growth: Access to free accredited training and development opportunities.
Support: Guidance from your dedicated consultant, Jessica Verndet, to help you find the right school fit.
Referral Rewards: Earn £300 in shopping vouchers through our "Refer A Friend" scheme!
