North Cambridge
Are you a confident, adaptable, and highly organised professional looking for a dynamic role within a supportive Secondary School environment?
Do you thrive on the variety of working across different subjects and year groups, ensuring continuity of learning and a positive classroom atmosphere in the teacher's absence?
We are seeking a proactive and reliable General Cover Supervisor to join a vibrant and well-regarded Secondary School community in the North Cambridge area. This crucial role is perfect for someone looking to gain extensive classroom experience, perhaps before embarking on teacher training, or for those who prefer the flexibility and variety of non-teaching classroom support.
The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity exists for a General Cover Supervisor to provide essential daily support for planned and unplanned teacher absences across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (Ages 11-18).
You will be responsible for managing whole classes, maintaining good order, and ensuring students remain on task with work that has been meticulously pre-set by the absent teacher. This is a role focused on supervision, guidance, and behaviour management, not active lesson planning or teaching new content.
The school is committed to maintaining a high standard of education, and your contribution will be central to ensuring that student learning progresses uninterrupted. You will be a key part of the school's daily function, supported by a strong pastoral and Senior Leadership Team.
Core Responsibilities
- Supervise whole classes during short-term teacher absences, ensuring students complete the prepared work.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively and consistently, in line with the school's behaviour policy, promoting a constructive and focused learning environment.
- Communicate instructions clearly to students and respond to general queries about the process or procedures of the set task.
- Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies according to school policies.
- Collect completed work/resources at the end of the lesson and return them to the appropriate teacher or department.
- Provide objective feedback to the class teacher on student engagement, progress, and any issues that arose during the lesson.
- Supervise students during break, lunch, or registration periods as required.
- Follow all school policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health, safety, and confidentiality.
Essential Profile
- Proven experience working with young people (aged 11-18) in an educational or supervisory capacity is highly desirable.
- Exceptional behaviour management skills and the ability to command respect and maintain high expectations in the classroom.
- High levels of flexibility and adaptability to cover various subjects and year groups at short notice throughout the school day.
- A confident, resilient, and professional demeanour.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with students and staff.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
