An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cover Supervisor to join our partner Secondary School in Peterborough. This vital role involves supervising students and managing the classroom during the short-term absence of a teacher. You will be responsible for ensuring students remain on-task with work that has been pre-set, playing a key part in the smooth running of the school day. This position is perfect for aspiring teachers, recent graduates, or anyone with experience working with young people who want to build their skills in an educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise whole classes across a variety of subjects, ensuring students complete the work that has been left for them.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively, following the school's policies to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
- Provide support to students with questions about the pre-set work, procedures, or resources, without providing direct teaching.
- Take the class register and collect completed work at the end of the lesson.
- Report back to the regular teacher on student conduct and any issues that arose during the lesson.
- Uphold the school's values and policies, including those related to safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Experience working with young people in an educational or similar setting is highly desirable.
- Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
- A resilient, proactive, and adaptable approach to your work, as you will be covering a range of classes and subjects.
- The ability to act on your own initiative and make sound decisions under pressure.
- A Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one).
- Please note: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not essential for this role.
