- Manage classroom behavior effectively and proactively, ensuring a positive working environment and adherence to the school's behavior policy.
- Distribute and collect work, explain instructions (as provided by the absent teacher), and handle routine classroom queries.
- Report back to the Head of Department or appropriate staff member regarding any issues arising during the lesson, including student progress or behavior incidents.
- Provide general administrative support to the department or school during periods without cover responsibility (e.g., preparing resources).
- Adhere strictly to the school's safeguarding and health and safety policies at all times.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with young people (aged 11-16), ideally in an educational, youth work, or similar supervisory setting, is essential.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills, with a naturally confident and resilient demeanor.
- Strong and proven behaviour management techniques, with the ability to build immediate rapport and command respect.
- Flexibility, reliability, and the ability to quickly adapt to different subjects, classroom dynamics, and unexpected changes in the timetable.
- A naturally positive and professional approach, with an understanding of the importance of maintaining continuity in learning.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
What We Offer
- A competitive daily rate of £150 - £220, commensurate with experience.
- The chance to work within a highly supportive and dynamic school community in the desirable location of Saffron Walden.
- A valuable opportunity to gain extensive classroom experience across multiple subjects, which can be excellent preparation for teacher training (PGCE).
- Access to ongoing support and relevant school-based training.
- A deeply engaging role that provides profound daily fulfillment by directly contributing to student progress.
