We are seeking a proactive and committed specialist to join a welcoming Secondary School community in the Thetford area on a part-time basis. The Opportunity
A fantastic, potentially long-term opening exists for an experienced and qualified QTS Food Technology Teacher to work within a well-regarded Secondary School in Thetford.
This crucial part-time role is set to commence in January 2026 and run until April 2026, but there is a high chance of this position being extended to the end of the academic year (July 2026).
You will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, practical Food Technology lessons to mixed-ability classes across Key Stages 3 and 4. Your contribution will be central to maintaining the subject's momentum and ensuring students are prepared for practical assessments and examinations.
Core Timetable & Responsibilities
This is a three-day-per-week role, with consistent working days being:
- Monday
- Wednesday
- Friday
Core Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver creative and practical Food Technology lessons that adhere to the national curriculum and school policy.
- Ensure all students, particularly those undertaking GCSE/BTEC qualifications, are supported in meeting practical and theoretical learning objectives.
- Maintain a high standard of health and safety within the food technology classrooms and kitchen, ensuring equipment is used and stored correctly.
- Manage stock, order ingredients, and maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the learning environment.
- Mark students' work, provide constructive feedback, and assess practical skills accurately to track progress.
- Attend departmental meetings, contribute to curriculum development, and communicate effectively with parents and colleagues.
Essential Profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, alongside a relevant degree or specialism in Food Technology, Hospitality, or Design & Technology (Food).
- Recent, demonstrable experience teaching Food Technology to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE/BTEC) is highly desirable.
- A proven track record of effective classroom management and the ability to inspire a passion for the subject.
- Excellent organisational skills, particularly regarding ingredient management, budgeting, and kitchen maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of food hygiene, safety regulations, and allergy awareness in a teaching kitchen environment.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
