Bury St Edmunds
Are you a highly adaptable, resilient, and engaging educator or graduate looking for an immediate and rewarding opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic Secondary School environment?
Do you possess the confidence and strong classroom management skills required to supervise and manage classes for students across Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4), ensuring continuity of learning when the regular teacher is absent?
We are seeking a proactive General Cover Supervisor to join a well-regarded secondary school in Bury St Edmunds. This temporary, full-time position offers immediate work and is ideal for those considering a future career in teaching.
The Role:
A fantastic opportunity is available for a motivated General Cover Supervisor to join the support team at a respected secondary school in Cambridge. This role is available for an immediate start on a temporary contract basis.
As a General Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing classrooms and overseeing students aged 11-16 (KS3 and KS4) during the short-term absence of the permanent class teacher. Your core focus will be to ensure students are on task with pre-set work, maintain excellent classroom behaviour, and adhere to the school's high standards. You will not be required to plan lessons or mark student work, but rather facilitate a positive learning atmosphere and address immediate student needs and issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes across various subjects, ensuring students complete the work set by the absent teacher.
- Manage and effectively implement the school's positive behaviour policy to maintain a safe, orderly, and focused learning environment.
- Explain tasks and activities clearly to students, ensuring they understand the learning objectives.
- Respond to questions regarding the set work, offering guidance without teaching new material.
- Report any persistent behavioural issues or concerns to the Head of Department or appropriate senior staff member in line with school policy.
- Adhere to all school safeguarding protocols and general policies at all times.
Candidate Profile
- Essential: Confidence in managing large groups of students (up to 30) aged 11-16 (KS3 and KS4).
- Essential: Strong background in classroom management and behaviour guidance, or significant experience in a related field (e.g., coaching, youth work).
- Desirable: A degree qualification or strong A-Level/BTEC background (this role is ideal for aspiring teachers).
- Exceptional organisational skills, reliability, and excellent timekeeping.
- Highly resilient, adaptable, and able to think quickly to resolve immediate issues.
- Must hold a current Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or be willing to process one immediately.
We Offer
- A highly competitive daily rate ranging from £120 - £150, reflective of your experience and performance.
- The chance to gain invaluable, paid classroom experience in a supportive Cambridge secondary school.
- Flexible work patterns suitable for those seeking regular, full-time work.
- A profoundly engaging role that offers variety across different subjects and year groups.
- £300 Refer A Friend incentive scheme.
